單車欲問邊，
屬國過居延。
征蓬出漢塞，
歸雁入胡天。
大漠孤煙直，

蕭關逢候騎，
都護在燕然。

Off in a single carriage on my mission to the frontier
For dependencies beyond Chüyen now
I am carried like thistledown out from the Han defences
And wild geese are flying back to the savage waste
From the Gobi one trail of smoke straight up
In the long river the falling sun is round
At Hsiao Pass I meet our patrols
Headquarters are on Mount Yenjan.
